Start Surabaya at midnight – Bromo sunrise tour - back to Surabaya
Your driver will pick you up around midnight. This can be at your hotel or at the airport. In about 3 hours you will reach Cemara Lawang village at the crater rim. In Cemara Lawang you will have to change your private comfortable car for a private Jeep. The Jeep will drive you to Mt. Pananjakan, which is one of the highest viewpoints in the area (2770 m). You can drink a cup of coffee or tea and experience a local snack before sunrise. Weather conditions will eventually determine the views and the color palette.
After sunrise, the Jeep will continue to Mount Bromo via the sea of sand. Ask the driver to stop if you wish to experience the sea of sand. Otherwise, your driver will park near Luhur Poten temple. After the Jeep is parked it will be a 45-minute walk to the top of Mt. Bromo. If you don't feel like walking, you can rent a horse (not included). Take your time. When ready, the driver will be waiting for you. It is a short drive to Cemara Lawang where you will have breakfast in Cafe Lava Hostel. After breakfast, you will be driven back to Surabaya. The estimated time of arrival in Surabaya is around 15:00.
The time mentioned in the table below is an estimation. Of course, it also depends on traffic and weather conditions and how much time you would like to take at the several objects that you visit.
In general, it takes about 3 hours to reach your next destination in Surabaya. You will need about 3 hours to visit the Madakaripura Waterfalls.
If you would like to catch a plane, please book a flight that departs after 15:00 at Juanda International Airport Surabaya. You then won't have time to visit the waterfalls. You can book flights to almost everywhere in Indonesia and to major destinations in Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City. If you would like to take a train to Yogyakarta, you can take the Bima executive train that departs at 17:00 and arrives at 21:46 or Sancaka executive train that departs at 17:25 and arrives at 22:32.
